The bipartisan Santa Rosa Forum on Fluoridation was held September 30, 2013, at the Glaser Center, 547 Mendocino Avenue, Santa Rosa, California.

THE FORUM PANELISTS are fluoride-free water advocates Laura Gaeta Wilson, DDS, and Dr. Bill Osmunson, DDS, MPH. Dr. Wilson is a Santa Rosa dentist in practice for 28 years. Dr. Osmunson is a practicing dentist, and the founding director of the Institute of Comprehensive Dental Studies for Aesthetic Dentistry, Neuromuscular and Craniofacial Pain.
The Forum is moderated by Stephen Fuller-Rowell, co-founder of the Sonoma County Water Coalition, and a member of the Sonoma County Fluoridation Advisory Committee (FAC).

WHY A FORUM ON FLUORIDATION?
The Santa Rosa Forum on Fluoridation had its origin in the June 2013 Sonoma County Civil Grand Jury Report on Fluoridation, which acknowledged that water fluoridation is a controversial subject, and made two recommendations: 1. that citizens educate themselves, and 2. that the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors make impartial decisions on fluoridation, “allowing for both pro and con views to be heard.”
From June 2011, when the Sonoma County Department of Health Services first recommended the fluoridation of Sonoma County water, through September 2013, Sonoma County’s consideration of the fluoridation issue was one-sided.
While hundreds of thousands of Sonoma County taxpayer dollars had been spent on pro-fluoridation reports, studies, and public relations, the no-fluoridation position was relegated three minutes per speaker during Public Comment periods.
COMMUNITY ACTION
Since the County had not made time or funding available for both sides of the fluoridation issue to be heard and weighed together, three Northern California non-profits joined to sponsor the bipartisan Santa Rosa Forum on Fluoridation.
The Forum was organized by Clean Water Sonoma-Marin Director Dawna Gallagher-Stroeh, and sponsored by the Sonoma County Water Coalition, Clean Water California, Clean Water Sonoma-Marin.
PRESENTING BOTH SIDES
The reason for the Forum was to present both sides of the water fluoridation issue. The Forum organizer and sponsors were successful in that goal, but achieving it was a challenge. The Sonoma County Department of Health Services was unable to provide the two originally agreed upon profluoridation panel members. The local dental society declined to make recommendations and, of all the profluoridation dentists and other health professionals who were invited to be on the panel, only one profluoridation professional accepted. In the end, he too was unable to participate. Since there were no advocates of water fluoridation on the panel , the profluoridation position was represented in a 10 minute Powerpoint excerpted from Current Science on Community Water Fluoridation, a PowerPoint report by renowned ADA fluoridation spokesman Professor Howard Pollick (one of the Forum Panel invitees). As a courtesy, Professor Pollick’s views were read by Dr. Osmunson.

LA PRO-FLUORACION

POR QUE UN FORO SOBRE LA FLUORACIÓN DEL AGUA?
El Gran Jurado Civile 2012-2013 del Contado de Sonoma también recomendó que los representantes de la mesa directiva del Condado de Sonoma tomaran decisiones imparciales en cuanto a la fluoración, para que así permitieran escuchar opiniones a favor y en contra. EL CONTADO DE SONOMA
Condado de Sonoma relacionados con la fluoración del agua y que los ciudadanos deben enterarse y educarse acerca de este tema controversial.
En 2011, El Departamento de Servicios de la Salud del Condado de Sonoma recomendó la fluoración del agua del Condado de Sonoma. En Septiembre del 2013, cientos de miles de dólares del condado de Sonoma se han gastado a favor de la fluoración, estudios y Relaciones Públicas. Lo que alegan es que hay muchos argumentos tanto a favor como en contra de la fluoración que aparecen en los registros del Reporte del Gran Jurado del Condado de Sonoma relacionados con la fluoración del agua y que los ciudadanos deben enterarse y educarse acerca de este tema controversial.
Como el Condado no había dispuesto un tiempo para cada punto de vista y escucharlos y evaluarlos, tres organizaciones del Norte de California se unieron para patrocinar el Foro de la Fluoración del agua del Condado de Sonoma.
